Way Council

The Walker Area Youth (WAY) Council was born out of the idea that youth can make a significant impact on their community when given the right resources and opportunities. The WAY Council consists of juniors and seniors representing each of the 8 high schools in our county.

The Walker Area Community Foundation gives the WAY Council a sum of money up to $10,000 each year to distribute funds to nonprofits and school clubs involving youth services. The members of the WAY Council participate in the grantmaking process by attending monthly meetings where they learn to read grant applications, conduct site visits and distribute funds among submitted grant proposals.

WAY Council Grant Retreat at Bear Branch Lodge - 2009

The WAY Council recently held it's annual grant retreat at Bear Branch Lodge on January 9 - 10. The Council enjoyed a great time of hanging out by the fire, eating chili dogs and watching movies. Among the fun, they found time to review the 12 grant applications submitted to them by nonprofit organizations and school clubs involving youth in community service. they funded 10 organizations for a combined total of $9,100. These organizations are listed to the right. To volunteer with any of these opportunities, please see the volunteer opportunities section of this website.
